 Deanna Jo...

The Woman, The Decorator, The Chocolate Lover!

The Woman

I'm married to the love of my life, Scott.  I have a beautiful 15 year old daughter (my "mini-me") and a beautiful 19 year old step-daughter.  Needless to say, Scott is outnumbered in a house full of girls.  I have the best parents and parents in-law in the world, and some really wonderful, wacky friends!  God has been so good to me! What can I say, I'm a very blessed girl!

The Decorator:

What can I say, I love to decorate!  I've been thinking lately about where my "creative gene" came from.

My Mom is a great cook and loves to be creative with her cooking (especially sweets).  She also loves dishes and creates very inviting "tablescapes".

My Grandmother was also artistic.  She could draw very well and had beautiful handwriting (the handwriting gene has escaped me), and always loved to garden (flowers and vegetables).  She was a fabulous cook and I have wonderful memories of my Grammy Leeman in her kitchen cooking (especially at Christmas).  They always used an old woodstove to heat their kitchen.  Just thinking of that crackling fire and remembering all of the home cooking smells...take me back to when I was a little girl.  Wonderful memories!  I sure miss her.

For Me creative expression comes in the form of decorating.  I love to decorate the inside and outside of the house.

I can remember the first time I discovered this style of country decor.  I instantly loved it!  My husband took me to Pennsylvania with him on a business trip and that was where I first found this simple country style.  Needless to say, I did some major shopping for home decor on that trip!  It was a breath of fresh air from the old country style of dusty rose and wedgewood blue, themed, country decor.  The primitive colors were richer, and the style was just less frilly and fussy.   I've always thought that a home should be warm and inviting, and I found that country primitive decor was just that.

My quest began to try to find primitive decor here in my local area. And at that time, it was not an easy task.  This seemed like the perfect place for this style of decor, as the Maritimes is easily one of the most "laid back", welcoming places you will find.  So, in 2007, I decided to open my own shop, The Olde Country Store in the basement of my home.

In 2009 we moved to the city.  I've always been a country girl, and I must admit that I am missing the wide-open spaces of the country...but, the convenience of the city is nice too.  My "yearning for wide open spaces" gene came from my dad.  My dad has always been an outdoorsman and when I was a kid he built a small log home over-looking the Miramichi River.  One of my future projects may be to decorate it.  Now that will be fun!

So, because of the move I have had to change my business.  I sold my previous business  before we moved, and once we were settled in here, decided to create www.countrylaneprimitives.ca.

Our website offers a selection of country primitive quilts.  We also try to offer customer service with a friendly, personal touch.

I've also recently graduated from an interior decorating course, so it will be fun to see what the future holds.

 The Chocolate Lover!
